Tesla Owners Club Nederland helping with record deliveries in December

In December we as Tesla Owners Club Nederland, supported Tesla with the delivery challenge they were facing.

Tesla delivered over 30.000 cars in The Netherlands in 2019 and over 12.000 of those in December. Tesla chose to deliver the cars where they arrive in the country, the port of Amsterdam. It’s not just Tesla’s, other cars are also shipped to the port of Amsterdam, such as electric MG’s and electric Nissan’s. Rows and rows of cars parked on huge parking lots, waiting to be picked up by trucks to bring them to the dealerships. Tesla chose to keep the cars parked in the port, simply because there were too many cars to deliver them in a more conventional way. The Tesla Model 3 is the best sold car in The Netherlands in 2019 with 29.922 sales. To put that in perspective: the second best sold car of 2019 is the Volkswagen Polo with 13.000 sales.

New owners can either get to the port or to the nearby train station Amsterdam Sloterdijk where Tesla provided a shuttle service with Model X’s. At the front of the parking lot is a building where the paperwork is handled. New owners then get a number beginning with a letter. That is the parking spot where their car is parked. The keys are already inside and the car is ready to be driven to its new home. Most cars had between 250 and 350 km of range, which is plenty for most new owners to get home comfortably.

Employees of Tesla wore orange safety vests, Koopman employees wore yellow safety vests and we from the Tesla Owners Club wore blue safety vests. That way, new owners could easily understand who can help them with a question. Tesla personnel helping the new owner in case a question about the state of the car arose and we as Tesla owners are voluntarily walking around to help people understand how the car works. We explain the basics of setting the driver profile, navigation and charging. If customers have more questions, we can spend more time and explain everything. Most new owners already knew a lot about their new car, but some didn’t. One new owner even asked where the gas tank is located.

Why are we voluntarily helping Tesla deliver their cars? Simple. We love our cars and like to help new owners get familiar with theirs. From the conversations we had with new owners, we can safely say that this delivery system is working great. New owners like the fact that they can pick up their car in as little as 15 minutes and they appreciate owners answering all questions that they may have.
